I’m a Data Analyst and Data Visualisation Designer based in sunny Valencia, Spain.
Learning languages since I was four. People know me as an amateur photographer, swing dancer and urban cyclist. I have volunteered for social and cultural projects and events.
In 2019 I decided to take a two-year leave to travel and study. Covid-19 has taken the travelling away, but I have pursued an MA in Data Visualisation and started a personal project at givemethebeat.anapierola.com.
I have found a thrill in telling stories with data, unravelling the story behind the numbers and turning it into compelling visuals. I believe in the powerful combination of insight and communication to derive change in our organisations and our society.
DATA VISUALISATION DESIGNER
November 2020 – Present
I define and build data visualisation projects from scratch to deliver compelling visuals. I do data collection, design of experiments, data analysis and design to create infographics, websites and data stories.
On December 2020 I took part in the UN Women Datathon at Datafest Tbilisi. I partnered up with Dursun Halimova and our data storytelling proposal was awarded. We created this social media posts for UN Women Georgia.
My ongoing personal project is Give Me The Beat, a digital platform where the Swing Dance Community can share and learn about their music. My article On The Sunny Side Of Swing is a candidate for the Malofiej Awards 2020.
RESEARCHER / DATA EXPERT
Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia
June 2013 – June 2019
As a Researcher in the 3D Anthropometry team, I find data-driven solutions for apparel industry problems. I write preprocessing algorithms of structured and unstructured data and explore machine learning opportunities. By analysing and synthesising data from multiple sources, I build ad-hoc predictive models and machine-learning algorithms to address real-life problems using scripting languages (Python, R). I maintain, support and document data models and data-driven products and present results in a clear manner to both technical and non technical audiences. I also write algorithms for 3D mesh automatic processing.
I participate in both short and long-term international projects, delivering state-of-the-art solutions to real industry problems, as well as scientific papers, technical dossiers and reports. I have presented our work at conferences and international meetings.
I regularly design, conduct and analyse user experience research. I have also had the chance to teach an internal training workshop on how we develop and use our tools.
Viu la Bici
January 2019 – Present
Viu la Bici is a sustainable urban mobility initiative. I have been part of its early development. In March 2019, I was the crowdfunding campaign promoter (lateuaterra.com/viu-la-bici) for the project. Since June 2019, I regularly collaborate with content creation: copywriting, graphic design, video, photography.
Apple Store Valencia
September 2019 – January 2020
My job was to deliver Apple’s customer experience. In my personal interactions with customers, I discovered their needs so as to match them with the right products and I revealed new products and features. I was happy to assist other store teams during my time at Apple.
